I have eaten here so many times and it was always fantastic. I just ate here for dinner and ordered the tilapia. It was cooked perfectly, and the twice baked potato was perfect. The bread was warm and buttered and the chicken salad was moist and to die for. Next was the deserts, the three layer carrot cake was so good. I ordered three to go boxes and it was great. It has made it into my top five favorite restaurants. Totally coming back!

Most unexpected and best experience ever. We called 20 minutes before closing asking if they are still open. The owner, we assume, asked where we were and gave us very good direction and assured us that we will be accommodated as it would take about 25 minutes from where we were. The filet and the skirt steak were very delicious, flavorful and tender. The bread was amazing. Great taste and still warm. We will definitely go back if and when we are in the area.

4 stars and not 5 because of 2 things. 1) service good and friendly but not impeccable, 2) my medium rare steak was medium. I agree with other reviews that this is the best place in the area. I highly recommend it because of the small town feel. The restaurant is a double wide trailer and looks like a refurbished residential home. We ate in the dining room with only 4 other tables or so. The outside ambiance includes a dog pen and a shoddily finished patio area. The menu was large- probably too large if I were to ever open a restaurant- and the meat was fantastic. It felt like a part butcher shop/ part restaurant the way the waiter talked about the various cuts. My tips: gotta make reservations, and bring your own alcohol.

Great place to eat! Went there with a big group of friends and they treated us great. Food was amazing, not one person in the whole group didn't love their food! It has a different ambience that is great for a change.

When planning our parent's 60th anniversary celebration we wanted to select a place in Alamogordo that would be unique and special. Several people in town had raved about the food so we took a look at the reviews and decided it was a pretty good gamble. It certainly paid off! From the minute we walked in the door we were treated to a warm and friendly atmosphere. We were a large party of 8 and were well cared for in our very own separate dining room! Once we sat down a large loaf of warm and buttered freshly baked bread was set on the table and we immediately began salivating. For appetizers we ordered the mushrooms, the warm Brie and prickly pear croissant and mozzarella and tomato with basil. We couldn't decide which was more delicious. Crisp fresh salads with homemade dressings were next. Our meals ranged from steaks ( ribeye, filet, tenderloin) to chicken to tilapia. Everyone insisted that their entree was the best and we joked about who had " out ordered" who! Cooked to perfection and seasoned exquisitely everything was amazing. We brought champagne to toast and were even allowed the generous accommodation of being able to bring in a special desert. That didn't stop us from supplementing with the bananas foster- gone in a flash! I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Worth every penny! We will be back! A bunch!

Fantastic breakfast. The food is as fresh as it gets and is made from scratch. It is definitely worth the drive. It taste even better if you've spent the weekend camping out in White Sands. Just make sure you have cash or a check book. They do not accept credit.

Went for lunch based on the recommendation of a friend, absolutely great lunch! Amazing food presentation and everything is made fresh. This is well worth the trip but if you go for dinner be sure to have a reservation.

First things first: they do NOT accept credit cards. It's either cash or checks, so plan accordingly. I took my parents here for Sunday breakfast and everything was great, except the paper napkins and the cinnamon roll. Linen napkins seem more appropriate to the quality of everything else at Nuckleweed...their service is outstanding and the food was perfectly prepared and delicious. The cinnamon roll was a bit dry for my taste, but that's a very minor thing compared to how well they did everything else. My next visit here will be for dinner. I can't believe it took me 12 years to hear about them! It's a great change of pace from the rest of what Alamogordo and Otero County have to offer for dining-out options. I'm looking forward to my next meal there.

Very small, I don't think they can seat more than 20. Where do these folks get their produce? Fresh fruit and veggies abound. The steak sandwich was about the best I ever had...great service all around. You won't understand it until you go. So go and try it out!

Best breakfast in the area! Don't be scared away by the bizarre exterior (yes it is a restaurant in a trailer with a hound dog and horses in the yard). The french toast is to die for! I can't stop thinking about it! You can BYOB too, but they don't serve alcohol. I've only been for breakfast but everything I've had on the menu is great.

Seriously, the best food in Alamogordo. The quality of food is top notch. I can't wait to go back. It's worth the drive to the middle of nowhere!

This is the best food in more than a 50 mile area. In fact, off-hand, I can't name a restaurant that is absolutely better. Everything is made fresh, including desserts and ice cream. We had a group dinner there and everyone went away happy, though their menu is a little weak for vegetarian fare. My wife had pork tenderloin medallions that were absolutely wonderful: the pork was not dry, the breading (and pork) very flavorful. The desserts: WOW. Talk about huge, and fresh-made whipped cream and ice cream. Though I have not had their Sunday brunch, I have reports that is great. The menu is variable, I have no idea how often it changes. My only disappointment was finding out that they sometimes have Beef Wellington on offer, but it must be ordered a day or two in advance as it is quite a preparation. It is not an inexpensive place, most dishes are $15-$25 with some dishes lower and some higher. And they only take cash and checks, no credit cards, so hit the ATM before you drive out.

Great food and comfortable setting. I have eatin here 4 times during lunch with friends. We have never been disappointed with the quality of food and the kindness of the staff. It is a small place that focuses on great taste, so have patience waiting for your food.

Great little bistro out in the country a few miles from the village of La Luz, NM. Great food.....FRESH and you won't leave here hungry! Next time, we will pass on the coffee.....VERY WEAK! Come on guys.....great food and the deserts look WONDERFUL! Now, just kick up the coffee with some good beans and you got a five star place !!

What a pleasant surprise! The best Rib eye I've had anywhere. Perfectly cooked. Desserts are simply beyond description. Beware of the large portions and save room for the fresh bread. Hope to go back again when in the area.

This is the best place to eat in a 100 mile radius from Alamogordo. They serve a fantastic breakfast and I can definitely recommend the Stuffed French Toast (I know what you are thinking: "I can make french toast at home.") But you are wrong. Your french toast doesn't make you happy inside and want to spread world peace. The Stuffed French Toast here does. Dinner is on a whole new level of awesome. The salmon is spectacular and the Rib-eye is also very good. The last time I was there, I had the BBQ Shrimp skewers wrapped in bacon...amazing. Things to know: they do not serve alcohol but you can bring your own wine or beer. They do not have high chairs but don't mind if you bring one and put a baby in it. They can only take cash or check, no cards. It's off the beaten path so I would make a reservation for dinner because it is a very small place. Breakfast you can probably just go up there if it's not on a Sunday or holiday. The best place in the Holloman/Alamogordo area hands down!
(5)Nikita W.
What a gem! Only had breakfast here thus far but absolutely love this restaurant. It's a little bit of a trek from alamogordo but well worth it. The stuffed French Toast is heavenly and you can't go wrong with any of the other dishes. Call ahead for reservations though as you might not get in if you don't. My husband and I can't wait go try out dinner here in the near future. Best breakfast joint around. Also, this place is cash only so be sure to hit the ATM before making the trek to La Luz for this hometown eatery.

We came here as a group when we had family in town for the weekend and happen to be passing through this area. This spot was a little hard to find and you probably will pull up thinking "is this the right place?" We were very impressed at the quality of food and the service we received here. And I'm not saying that just because of the location. I'm saying that as a foodie who has traveled around the U.S. enjoying food from mom & pop spots and fancy restaurants alike. Our waitress was very helpful and extremely nice. Our big party ordered several different breakfast items such as the eggs Benedict, French toast, waffles, and the house favorite. EVERYTHING was delicious and serving sizes were very generous. The ambience is very homey since the restaurant is literally in a house. I would highly recommend this spot if you live in the area or are passing through. Be sure to make a reservation first though!

When I pulled up the driveway, I tried to to talk my friend into not staying. I'm so glad I lost that argument!!! The food was amazing, I got emotional eating the chicken fried steak because it reminded me of what my great grandmother cooked for me. The gravy was the best I have ever had. Everything was perfect and the owner was so kind and hospitable. This is the kind of place that you are guaranteed a wonderful experience because the staff won't let you leave unhappy. My best dining experience in New Mexico by far. Can't wait to make the journey back!

We found this cafe couple of years ago during a trip to White Sands national park. We had dinner there once but it was memorable and one of our greatest finds. You must have reservations because they only have five tables and is located in the executive chef and owner's home. It's not as weird as it sounds. Her cafe is clearly defined from her personal space. In fact, she may greet you on the patio grilling steak as you walk in. The road to the cafe is long and windy. There are no signs as you drive through Native American neighborhoods. The road is made of dirt and gravel along an arroyo. You will make your way through the canyon and up the hillside. You may get lost like we did. It was pitch dark so it made it harder for us to navigate the roads. Give yourself at least an hour to find the place. It's so worth the frustration! When you are about to give up, you will see an American flag with the Knuckleweed sign ahead. Parking is located in the back of their home by the horse stables. The menu was seasonal. We tried the Caesar salad, spinach salad, ribeye steak with seasonal grilled vegetables, shrimp scampi, and cheesecake. Their food was simple and fresh but could go toe to toe with any top steakhouse in a large city. The portion size is plentiful. You'll need a refrigerator and microwave in your hotel room. I can't wait until out next road trip south! I hope they will be around for a long time so we can visit again.

I was so hyped to try this spot, heard nothing but rave reviews and how good the food was. Customer service is lacking though. I drove far to get here. It was like a Lord of the Rings Journey through the Texas (New Mexico in this case) Chainsaw Massacre/ Hills Have Eyes country backwoods to arrive. I'm pretty sure I saw Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner on the way too. I finally arrive, waiting to be seated. Then I'm told in a very unapologetic manner, "Oohh we're not taking walk ins today. You can come back next weekend though" (at 1245). They still had an hour and fifteen minutes left of them being opened and it wasn't even that busy either. I'm sure they could've easily fit me in. They didnt even have the decency to ask where I drove from or even try to put in an effort to get me seated. How was I honestly supposed to know this backwoods restaurant in the middle of nowhere New Mexico was as exclusive as Aspen or a premiere 5 Star restaurant? (The tips at the bottom of this, that I read in irritation after wasting my day). Why don't they put make reservations instead of 7-2 for hours??? I should've gone out to my car, call them and make reservations and walk back in to be seated. My whole Sundays ruined now. I love supporting local restaurants and I'm a huge foodie!!! I'm probably never gonna go back to this spot ever again. I don't care how good the food is. Their customer service sucks and that's a major part of the fine dining experience.

We went here for breakfast today. The wife had the stuff frenchtoast, simply amazing. I had the 3 egg omelette with ham and bacon, so good. Service was decent, food outstanding. Great breakfast option for all.

Wife and went there on my birthday dinner. I had filet mignon and she had scampi. My steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious, twice baked potato was ok. The fresh bread and Caesar salad was good also. The bad part, my wife got sick off the scampi even though she said it was good. The plating was rather plain for such expensive dishes. The service was good but not over the top. I would probably go there again maybe for lunch. Would be nice if they took credit cards. I would rate it a 4 or 5 if not for the bad parts

This is quite the place located so far from what I would consider civilization. A group of three of us went over the Labor Day weekend, and, despite not having reservations as I recommended one should do in my "tip," they seated us nearly instantly upon entering this tiny restaurant. The food was tremendous! We ordered and split the country-fried steak. I'm nearly certain the steak was breaded in house and cooked to perfection. I'm not necessarily an outright fan of country-fried anything, but I'm very much a fan of the way that the Nuckleweed serves up this fine dish! The wait staff and management are quite friendly indeed and seek to satisfy even the finickiest of diners. So, be prepared to be pampered when you arrive at and enjoy this tremendous oasis in the desert of New Mexico!

My wife and I went here for her birthday because we heard from others that it was a good place to go and it was unique in it's setting and location. It's a bit out of the way and if it wasn't for word of mouth might not of found the place. But we were pleased with it. We pull in to the place and it's a double wide mobile (modular) home! I don't know what to expect from this place I mean really how fancy can it be? But we get inside and it's pretty impressive a lot of time and money went into designing this place it was both intimate and romantic what you expect from a classy fine dining restaurant. I wouldn't say it's "small" but it's real "cozy". We had to make reservation because of the limited seating they have available. We get seated on some neat custom made tree log tables very nice rustic feel the tables were kinda awkward because of the different shapes and size but not uncomfortable. We are giving menus and our drinks got ordered. The waitress was polite and personable. Looking at the menu they are not exactly cheap; items were pricey, but we already knew that ahead of time so it wasn't sticker shock. We both agreed on the Crown Tenderloin meal with the twice baked potato which was just amazing with a sauce i hadn't heard of before called Bearnaise it came with shrimp and asparagus which was a great combination. Everything was cooked to perfection even the salad and the Fresh baked loaf of dinner bread we had was just perfection. It was a very enjoyable meal and despite the price we would be back for the experience again. The one thing that was disappointing tho was not the staff or the food but due to it's cozy setting and limited seating there is not much privacy when people are seating close together. When we were there there were 2 other tables occupied one table had a group of 4 that thought they were in the place alone because they were being very "Joyful" and Merry and having a real good time talking loudly laugh hard which hey they were having a good time but they wasn't very mindful or courteous to those sitting close to them. We had a hard time having our own conversation. Lastly, They don't take Credit cards?! I mean maybe it's personal choice but I have to wonder how much business they lose by not accepting credit/debit cards especially in this day and age when it is so easy and relatively inexpensive to accept credit cards. I don't see how any business operates without this now basic payment method. They do accept checks though so I guess it's better then cash only. I would hope they reconsider this in the future. My recommendation is make a visit when the reservations are low and with groups of 2 or 3. having a group of 4 or more people is really distracting in those close quarters. Now They may deserve a 5 star review but the reason i did 4 was because I am a Fan now but because of their prices I wouldn't be able to frequent the establishment except on rare occasions due to the price which makes me sad. but I understand they are trying to make a buck too and thats ok you are paying for the experience just as much as you are the food. You can tell this is a personal dream come true and a lot of care and love has gone into making dining here special. So they get to charge a premium for that because it's worth it. Cheers!
